Fuck! I had to stop after I've read 1/4 of those messages because it made me tremble just sitting at my desk. This is so horrible!

It is, by far and large, the most horrifying thing I've read this year, easily. I was in the UK a week after Brexit, and when one guy as black as the night (so clearly not a British native since BC) heard me talk Slovene to my son, he said something like "Go home" or something - I laughed into his face at the time, I think because of shock, but honestly, the sentiment behind those words was nowhere near laughable. Coming from the ex-Yugoslavia I learned a lesson on how easily the conflict can spread and in what horrible way, so just the idea of Trump encouraging scum of the earth like that to come floating on top is nightmarish. :/ I know you especially, coming from Germany, knows in which direction this is going. :(

Omg, darling I'm sorry about what happened in London! It'd be laughable being faced by racism by a poc, but sadly it isn't. Not at all. But that's how it goes. The more poor and rich drift apart the more hate will rise and we'll all get stuck in it. It's sad and alarming.

I've been going through the stages of grief all week of this election. I'm so angry and upset and depressed and worried and nervous about the Trump Presidency. I am definitely someone the more racial Trump supporters dislike, a poor, queer woman of color who only has healthcare because of the Affordable Care Act. Only they don't know it, because luckily, bittersweetly, I look white, so I haven't been the target for any of their hate (since they are the type to judge a book by its cover. That is, they would, if they decided to read a book, or learned how. <- Shitty comment, I know, but in a week full of shit, what's one more nugget added to the pile?)

Unfortunately, a lot of my friends do not have the protection my light skin affords me (what an incredible sentence that is. It really breaks my heart to say, let alone experience.) And I know it's going to get worse, but I haven't lost all hope because the people committing these crimes (because they are crimes) will learn that power of the office of POTUS is greatly overexaggerated. It is the least powerful branch of our government and a lot of Trump's campaign promises are unconstitutional, and therefore, won't become laws because there will be people to stop him.

I am not overly worried for his presidency. He is a lazy guy, who talks a big game but has nothing but a tainted brand name to show for it. He doesn't have the strength to be POTUS. And his supporters have been lied to. Do you think Trump will be able to wake up and run down to the War Room at 3am? What about working every day from 6am to 11pm non-stop? Check out his visit to the White House and the House of Rep. He looks scared out of his mind. He will quit and run from the White House screaming, making it sound like a DNC conspired to take him down.

Yeah, like one person tweeted - at least those of us who are against Trump and aren't of colour wear the right camouflage - which is sad as it is: why should anyone wear a camouflage in the free society of equals we aim at?
Well, more like "used to aim at", since the Trump victory - things are rapidly going into reverse: the candidate for an Education Minister is supposed to be a guy who's a young Earth creationist (!!), the dude responsible for environment doesn't believe in global warming - what the actual fuck?! With this rate, by the end of Trump reign, America won't find itself 4 years later, but 400 years in the bloody past! How can any science progress and thrive when you have a fucking creationist at the wheel?! Ugh, and more ugh!
I'm sincerely hoping you will make it through the four years safely (what would I do without your lovely writing, this selfish Slytherin laments!) and if you have to rely on your white skin to protect you, so be it. Whatever keeps you safe, yeah? You'll still be your wonderful original self when the orange dude is done with his circus, and I hope the next choice of your fellow countrymen is a better one.
I wouldn't normally be worried about Trump alone, as much of a demagogue he is, but congress and senate are looking dreadfully red as well - and that is where the real power resides, that is scary. I grew up in socialism, in a one-party system, and though ours was the most moderate type on the market (ex-Yugoslavia), it was still a autocracy much more than it was a democracy - but we knew no better. As soon as one party rules all the channels of government, this is when things have a potential to turn dangerous.
But you know what the worst thing is: Trump didn't vote himself onto this position, the American people gave him that power and its just sad to think that so many people out there share the hateful sentiments he channels. I thought this article was very insightful:

Even if Trump is lazy, he is also self-absorbed, greedy, and entitled and I can totally see him selling the benefit of your country to the highest bidder of all the lobbyists that surround him. I hope there is still authority in place to stop him, at least on the grand scale, though it might not be enough to make the life of little people more bearable.

All valid and hella scary reasons. Which is why I am not going to say silent. I will exercise my right to protest and a let my representatives, both local and federal, know where I stand.

The next big hope stands with the Mid-term elections. You can bet that the Democrats are pushing for a big change then. Because the same process that stymied Obama (where Republicans actively refused to work with him) might work for us. I would rather the country come to a halt than go back that far.

Don't worry I won't keep you waiting that long for an update.

Oh, my mistake. While our President is elected very 4 years, members of congress are elected every 2 years. It is called Mid-term elections because it happens during the middle of the Presidential election. It is rarely covered because it is not normally exciting, but you can bet that 2018 people will be paying attention to them.

Thank you for the explanation, I didn't know that! :) So there is a chance of a shift in the power structure closer in the future than in 4 years, that's good news! I hope Trum doesn't do too much damage until then, but shows his real face for people to realise, what a fraud he is.:P

Yeah, I went through a bunch of King's Twiiter before I had to stop. I'm really worried about violence; after Brexit there were a bunch of instances of anti-immigrant arson.

I think that's the biggest imminent threat: that the daily lives of the ordinary people are in some way threatened. There is no doubt in my mind that Trump's 4-year reign will set America 400 years in the past on a large scale, given what people he chose as his team and I think the whole world will feel that the fool is behind the wheel, but that at least will be gradual - what is happening to people on the street is immediate and very disheartening. From one day to another it became a norm to publicly express your hatred. :(
