Haha, if there were weekly Sherlock episodes Sherlock fandom would never go sleeping at all. Now you know why everyone is so excited. Series 3 aired in winter/spring 2014 and it's been a long waiting time for everyone. It's common knowledge that these guys are all terribly busy and it gets tougher and tougher to match their schedules.
